New Haven Warrant Searches
The Connecticut Judicial Branch VOP and FTA warrant search comes first. It is New Haven's closest official warrant tool. The form lists outstanding arrest warrants for violation of probation, failure to appear, and orders to incarcerate. Coverage is not complete, though. Its current notice states that failure-to-appear warrants will not display until further notice. So a New Haven warrant check needs a second step. Pull the matching docket through the pending criminal and motor-vehicle case search. When the court is uncertain, run it against both New Haven GA 23 and the New Haven Judicial District. A docket hit can show charges, dates, docket events, and the next setting. Treat that as context. It is not a certificate that a warrant is active or cleared. The clerk can settle that.
- Search the limited VOP/FTA page by name and useful filters.
- Search the pending criminal or motor-vehicle docket for case context.
- Use the docket number form when a notice supplies that number.
- Call the clerk for the court shown and ask for current status.
- Use NHPD Records or city FOIA only for a city-held police record.
Search the New Haven VOP Page
The VOP/FTA form has its own rules. Last Name is required. At least the first two letters must go in. First Name is optional and works as a begins-with field. Town, Court Location, Birth Year, and a plus-or-minus year range help narrow common names, and New Haven appears in the town list. Court choices include New Haven GA 06, GA 08, GA 23, and New Haven JD. The local route usually centers on GA 23 or the Judicial District.
| Field | Required | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Yes for name search | Enter at least the first two letters. |
| First Name | No | Matches names that begin with the text. |
| Town | No | Select New Haven when it fits the record. |
| Court Location | No | Try GA 23 and New Haven JD as appropriate. |
| Birth Year and Range | No | Use a four-digit year to narrow your own record. |
The official search interface shows these controls and a live data timestamp.

The screen's notices matter as much as its fields, because they define what a blank New Haven result can and cannot prove.
What a Warrant Search Asks For
Gather the facts before you search or call. Use the legal name, date of birth, approximate case or ticket date, town, court location, and docket number if known. Connecticut docket numbers combine a court-location prefix, a case-type code, a two-digit year, a unique number, and a suffix. CR means criminal. MV means motor vehicle. CI marks a criminal infraction and MI a motor-vehicle infraction, and no one should copy a live stranger's docket as a sample.
- GA 23
- The Geographical Area court for listed local criminal, motor-vehicle, traffic, and infraction matters.
- New Haven JD
- The Judicial District route for serious Part A criminal matters.
- FTA
- Failure to appear for a required court event.
- VOP
- An alleged violation of probation tied to a court warrant.
- PRAWN
- The Paperless Arrest Warrant Network used by authorized agencies, not the public.
A known docket avoids the ambiguity of a broad name match. It also hands the clerk the best routing key for a New Haven warrant check.
New Haven Docket Number Checks
A separate pending-case docket number lookup sits on the Judicial Branch site. Type the number exactly as it appears on a summons, notice, bond paper, or prior court record. A hit can establish which New Haven court holds the file. It also returns case events that help staff answer a status question. It will not expose the full PRAWN entry, sealed material, or any universal warrant-number field. The official docket screen shows that narrow entry route without displaying a private person's record.

Keep the docket number with any court receipt. Online data may take time to reflect a recall or service on a New Haven case.
Note: A case number is a routing tool, while only the issuing court can confirm the warrant's current legal status.
New Haven Warrant Search Results
A public result can carry a defendant-name field, town, court location, docket context, case category, warrant category, status or disposition context, and a date or system timestamp. That is the ceiling. Expect no photo, address, full date of birth, affidavit, judge, bond amount, warrant number, or serving agency. Read the result as a lead. It points to the court file. The clerk can explain current process and forms, though not give legal advice.
| Court location | Shows whether GA 23, New Haven JD, or another court should receive the question. |
|---|---|
| Docket number | Connects the result to the underlying criminal or motor-vehicle case. |
| Category | May identify VOP, FTA, order to incarcerate, Criminal, or Motor Vehicle context. |
| Status | May suggest active, served, recalled, quashed, or cleared, but the clerk must verify it. |
| Release detail | A bond or other condition may be omitted from the public display. |
Do not treat people who share a name as one person. Birth-year filters exist to distinguish records, so use them only for a valid personal or family need.
Case Search Versus Warrant Confirmation
The Judicial Branch criminal resources hub keeps these routes apart: the warrant page, the pending case search, the conviction search, sealing material, and docket lookups. That split matters. A pending docket may reveal a missed date or later court action. It is not a complete warrant list. A disposition record explains what happened after a case ended. Still, it does not prove every related flag is gone from each agency system. The pending-case interface shows the name, birth-year, court, and category choices a New Haven search uses.

Case search fields lead to a docket. Present warrant status still needs confirmation from the New Haven court itself.
New Haven Warrants: Who Holds What
For Part B criminal, motor-vehicle, traffic-ticket, and infraction matters, call the GA 23 Clerk's Office Public Information Line at (203) 789-7461, at 121 Elm Street. Hours run weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Part A matters are more serious. Those go to the New Haven Judicial District chief clerk at (203) 503-6800, 235 Church Street. Bail Services takes questions on court-set release procedure when the clerk directs that call. Its number is (203) 789-7482.
Superior Court GA 23
Local criminal, motor-vehicle, traffic, bench, and FTA case questions.
(203) 789-7461

(203) 946-6312
NHPD Booking at (203) 946-7607 answers custody and booking questions, not warrant certification. It is not the place to confirm an active New Haven warrant. The non-emergency line, (203) 946-6316, handles routine police contact, and the city does not advertise it as a round-the-clock warrant line.
New Haven City Record Requests
An NHPD report and a court file travel separate routes. For city-held records, start the New Haven FOIA process. The city prefers its web portal. Email works too, at FOIA@newhavenct.gov. Mail goes to City of New Haven, City Clerk, 200 Orange Street, New Haven, CT 06510, or you can hand-deliver to the City Clerk. Anything requested by fax, phone, or in person must still be reduced to the city form. Describe the exact NHPD record, the approximate date, any report or case number, and the parties or location that pin it down, plus your name and a contact method. Corporation Counsel acknowledges a request within four business days, may seek clarification, and routes it to the custodian. That is an acknowledgment, not a production deadline. NHPD reports cost $0.50 per page. A report of ten pages or fewer may be emailed free. Open investigations and protected details can still be withheld or redacted.
Note: City FOIA reaches city records, not Judicial Branch files, sealed warrants, or the nonpublic PRAWN law-enforcement system.
Which New Haven Warrants Stay Restricted
Connecticut's public access has real limits, even in New Haven. The Connecticut Freedom of Information Act generally supports access to public-agency records, subject to law-enforcement, safety, confidentiality, and other exemptions. Judicial records follow separate court access rules. Juvenile matters are confidential under CGS ยง46b-124. Youthful-offender, erased, sealed, recent, active-investigation, safety-withheld, family-support, and federal information may never appear in ordinary public results.
Key Rules:
The public VOP page does not contain every warrant type and may omit a listing when disclosure could threaten safety.
PRAWN offers detailed warrant inquiry and custodial processing to authorized agencies, not public accounts.
A blank search cannot certify that New Haven has no active warrant tied to the person or case.
A blank search settles nothing. If a missed date, probation notice, or police contact hints at a warrant, call the proper New Haven clerk. Use NHPD Records or a precise CT-FOIA request for city-held material. Court status belongs to GA 23 or the Judicial District clerk.
When New Haven PRAWN Details Stay Private
PRAWN is Connecticut's Paperless Arrest Warrant Network. More than 140 local, state, and federal criminal-justice agencies use its inquiry and custodial-processing functions. Data passes from the Criminal Motor Vehicle System and related state systems so an authorized user can identify the responsible agency and serve an electronic warrant. There is no public PRAWN login. The public VOP/FTA search does not mirror the full network. That is why a New Haven warrant check needs more than one screen. The public source can be partial. A docket may lag. NHPD may hold a related report without controlling the court order. Ask the clerk: active, served, recalled, or quashed? If it is active, a lawyer can explain the court's current appearance, surrender, and release instructions. For a wider view of city routes, see New Haven warrant records.
